Subproject A1

On the Interrelation of Archival and Architectural Orders in Archives of the Roman Curia in the Early Modern Period

In his dissertation project, Sebastian Glunz uses the archives of the Holy Office in Rome, the Holy Office in Malta, and the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples as examples to examine the interrelationship between archival orders and the architectural and spatial configuration of archives in the early modern period. In doing so, the project not only asks about the emergence and change of specific archival systems of ordering, but also whether and, if so, how, this affected the actions of their authorities. The basis for the study is formed by numerous holdings from various Vatican archives and the Mdina Metropolitan Archives in Malta, which are reviewed in specially conducted archival research.
