Lena Holbein studied art history and media sciences in Braunschweig, Bochum and Toulouse. After her studies, she was a trainee in the department for press and public relations at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. From 2016 to 2019, she was the recipient of a scholarship from the DFG Graduate Program “Das fotografische Dispositiv”. In her PhD-project, completed in February 2021, she focused on archival practices in contemporary art using found photographs. Furthermore, she was associated member of the DFG Graduate Program “Das Dokumentarische, Exzess und Entzug” (2018-19). During the winter semester 2019/2020, she was a research assistant at the Institute of Art History of the Ruhr-University Bochum. Since October 2020, she has been the coordinator of the LOEWE research cluster “Architectures of Order. Practices and Discourses between Design and Knowledge” at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.
